The Max Planck Institute of Geoanthropology (MPI‑GEA) was founded in the summer of 2022; it is a dynamically growing, highly international, and interdisciplinary research institution. The transdisciplinary research at MPI-GEA combines research areas represented by all three scientific sections of the Max Planck Society (MPG): Biology & Medicine; Chemistry, Physics, and Technology; and Human Sciences. Corresponding inter- and transdisciplinary research projects concern, for example, urbanization, the global food system, Earth-system observation, and global material, energy, and information flows. Additionally, they will work closely with IT service units to ensure that curated datasets are accessible and meet scientific standards for security, compliance, and usability.
