Our new research project Shaping Digital Culture in Public Administration funded by the Stiftung Mercator aims to explore how cultural change, leadership, and digital competences can accelerate digital transformation and strengthen German public administration. In order to strengthen the outreach and impact of the research, the project will collaborate with relevant actors from both public administration and civil society and link to the previous work of the Initiative für einen Handlungsfähigen Staat.
To support this three year research project in its initial phase, the Hertie School is looking for a highly motived Student Research Assistant with interest and experience in German public administration and Germany language fluency. The position is 10 hours/week and will start at the earliest on 1 February 2026 for a period of 6-12 months (with the possibility of an extension).
The Hertie School in Berlin prepares exceptional students for leadership positions in government, business, and civil society. The school offers master’s programmes, executive education and doctoral programmes, distinguished by interdisciplinary and practice-oriented teaching, as well as outstanding research. Its extensive international network positions it as an ambassador of good governance, characterised by public debate and engagement. The school was founded in 2003 by the Hertie Foundation, which remains its major funder. The Hertie School is accredited by the state and the German Science Council.
