Modern Mercedes-Benz (MB) vehicles are equipped with numerous control units that shape the targeted MB driving behaviour and safety - including steering systems (e.g., EPS, rear-axle steering, steer-by-wire) and brake systems (e.g., ESP). In our Control Systems Analysis team, we test these interacting control units within a Vehicle Dynamics Cluster Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) environment to enable digital validation and release testing. Here, real Electronic Control Units (ECUs) are coupled with component-based, high-level, real-time multibody simulation models of the vehicle (e.g., SIMPACK), allowing the validation of the system behavior under realistic dynamic conditions.
