Our story:

Every year millions of people are either filing their taxes in fear or giving up on their tax refund altogether. We're working on fixing that. Our intuitive app enables anyone, regardless of education or background, to file their taxes with newfound confidence.

Spread across Germany, Spain and the UK, the team at Taxfix Group with its brands Taxfix and Steuerbot, is a compassionate group of solution-finders. We speak our minds openly, and with over 400 professionals, including tax experts, developers, and IT security experts, we're rich in ideas and voices. The group has facilitated more than 3.5 billion euros in tax refunds for its customers since its founding in 2016.

Your tasks

Your challenge:

The Corporate IT team is evolving from service delivery to value creation. As our Automation Engineer, you'll build the systems, automations, and integrations that enable 400+ employees across Germany, Spain, and the UK to work more effectively. You'll be the technical force that turns operational friction into elegant solutions.

You'll work directly with teams across People Operations, Talent Acquisition, Business Partnering, and Insights to identify their biggest pain points and deliver measurable outcomes. You'll leverage our IT platform and AI tooling stack to create solutions that drive efficiency and support Taxfix's next phase of growth.

Reporting to the Director of IT, you'll be part of a focused 6-person team where platform engineers build the infrastructure, support engineers help employees, and you build the value. Your work will directly impact how efficiently our organisation operates.

Your responsibilities and decisions:

  • Design and build internal products, workflows, and integrations that solve real business problems for teams across the organisation
  • Develop automations and integrations between our SaaS tools using APIs, scripts, and connector logic to eliminate manual work
  • Implement system designs with code-heavy nodes in low-code platforms, writing robust SQL queries and custom scripts where needed
  • Partner with stakeholders in People Operations, Talent Acquisition, and Workplace Experience to understand needs, define outcomes, and deliver solutions
  • Drive initiatives to integrate AI technologies into people team processes, improving productivity and unlocking new capabilities
  • Create documentation and provide guidance to stakeholders on how to effectively use the systems you build
  • Measure the impact of your solutions through clear metrics, iterating based on feedback and usage data

Your Profile:

  • 3-5 years of experience as a software engineer, automation engineer, or similar role focused on building internal tools and workflows
  • Strong proficiency in at least one programming language, for example, Python, JavaScript or TypeScript.
  • Experience working with APIs and building integrations between business systems
  • Solid data handling skills using SQL to query, analyse, and manipulate data
  • Familiarity with low-code platforms and the ability to implement complex logic within them (ex N8N, Zapier)
  • Experience integrating AI technologies into business processes or workflows
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools, particularly Github Actions
  • A product mindset—you think about outcomes, user experience, and measurable impact
  • Experience with ETL tools and techniques for data integration and transformation is a plus
  • Excellent communication skills in English; German is a plus
