The position
We are currently looking for a Technologist for our Electric Power Test (EPT) team.
The position will be based in Darmstadt, Germany. As far as the internal part of the work is concerned, most of the work can also be done remotely. Occasional meetings in Darmstadt will be mandatory, though. Other locations maybe considered based on the candidates qualification and experience.
Our new Technologist will be responsible to start up and to take the lead in our approach to achieve a “thought leadership” role in the electric power test market. This market includes electric vehicles, electric aircraft, the energy sector including the power grid, and other inverter/electrical machine applications.
In this role he will work closely together with customers, application engineers, engineering, academia, the HBM internal “Academy”, HBK direct and non direct sales organizations and Business Development on a worldwide scale
Primary responsibilities
You will be responsible to support the rapidly growing strategic business initiative “Electric Power Testing” with cutting edge technology ideas and application solutions.
This should be developed based on customer demands, needs and pain points and overcome the “traditional” solutions and approaches currently available in the market.
These technological ideas will be generated with customers and internal collegues, investigated for feasibility, and tested for implementation both theoretically as well as practically. Both technical and also basic commercial aspects need to be considered. Once needs and approaches for their solutions are defined and worked out, these should be presented at congresses and exhibitions, and also - together with Product Management - converted into Key Requirement Documents for engineering.
You will also support our ongoing activities to better educate the HBK staff in all levels towards advanced electrical power testing. Also to develop and establish our consultancy business model, initially executed in person and later transferring to our HBK engineering services team.

Professional qualifications
You already hold a Ph.D. degree (or are a Ph.D. student close to deliver your thesis for approval) in Electrical Engineering with several years of application, domain or industry experience. In depth know how in electric power measurements, drive development, inverter control, drive calibration and Measurement Uncertainty is highly beneficial. During your career you already attended congresses regarding electrical power and drives (ICEM, IEPE or similar) and presented papers.
