Nature Research is recruiting an editor for Nature Biomedical Engineering. The position is offered on a permanent basis.
Nature Biomedical Engineering publishes original research, reviews and commentary of high significance to the biomedical engineering community, including bench scientists interested in devising materials, methods, technologies and therapies to combat disease; engineers designing and optimizing medical devices and procedures; and clinicians leveraging research outputs in biomedical engineering to assess patient health and deliver therapy across a variety of clinical settings and healthcare contexts.
The role involves helping a broad section of applied biomedical scientists improve their research work, and shaping a high-impact journal that straddles the applied biomedical sciences, the physical sciences and engineering.
The successful applicant will work within a close-knit multidisciplinary team of editors on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection, the overseeing of peer review, the generation and discussion of ideas for new content, the commissioning and editing of reviews and commentary, and writing. The role requires attendance to scientific conferences and the regular liaising with researchers via conference calls and on-site visits.
We are seeking a biomedical scientist, ideally with a background in applied immunology or applied molecular and cellular biology. We will also consider candidates with research experience in any area of applied biomedicine. Candidates must have a PhD in an area relevant to the applied biomedical sciences or biomedical engineering, and a strong research record. Postdoctoral experience is preferred. Previous editorial experience is not required, yet candidates with substantial editorial experience will be considered for Senior Editor. Proficiency in scientific writing and developmental editing are essential.
Broad scientific expertise, the ability to absorb new knowledge, and a keen interest in the communication of science are prerequisites. We seek candidates who are resourceful, open-minded, decisive and diligent. The role involves constant learning, and offers flexibility in self-management and a sensible balance of independence and collaborative teamwork.
The position will be based in our London, Berlin or New York offices.
