Associate or Senior Editor (Applied Physics/Engineering), Nature
Location: London (preferred), Berlin or Shanghai
Closing date: 10th February 2021
Do you love science but feel that a research career isn’t enough to sate your desire to learn more about the natural world? Do you enjoy reading papers outside your chosen area of research? Are you passionate about the role of science as a driver of state-of-the-art technology? If the answer is ‘yes’ to any or all of these questions, you could be the person we’re looking for to join the editorial team of Nature.
Nature is the world’s leading multidisciplinary journal, publishing high-quality research from across the natural sciences. To help us to build on the success of this journal, we are seeking an editor with a strong background in (and broad appreciation of) electronic and photonic technologies – one who has a critical eye, a deep understanding of their subject and interests beyond, and who can think on their feet.
The successful candidate will report to the Chief Physical Sciences Editor, and they will be expected to play an important role in determining the representation of these applied fields in the journal as a whole. They will handle original research papers and review material, and work closely with other editors on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection and overseeing peer review. The ability to offer well-reasoned editorial decisions on submitted manuscripts in the light of expert advice is crucial. They will liaise extensively with editors at other journals in the Nature family and experts in the international research community. Editorial experience is not required, although applicants with significant editorial experience are encouraged to apply and will potentially be considered for a Senior Editor position.
The position is offered on a full-time, permanent basis, and will ideally be located in our London office, although requests for possible placement in one of the other Nature editorial offices (e.g. Berlin and Shanghai) will be considered.
For Berlin candidates, we offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes:
Terms for Berlin
Limitation: None
Working Hours: Full-time (37 hours/week)
Company: Springer Nature AG & Co. KGaA
Please apply by sending your CV, covering letter (including your class of degree, a brief account of your research and other relevant experience, and details of your current salary) and a concise discussion of some recent developments in these applied areas which you have found particularly exciting (explaining why).
Candidates will be considered as they apply.
Please apply using our online application system. We are looking forward to your online application!
