You are a Master student in an engineering field and you are looking for a future orientated, challenging and interesting master thesis? Then we have the right offer for you in Berlin:
Master Thesis on flexible gas-based hybrid combined heat and power (CHP) and power-to-heat (P2H) concepts
Vattenfall currently operates three coal-fired powerplants in Berlin for combined heat and power (CHP), which are expected to be phased-out no later than 2030.
Vattenfall is currently analyzing the replacement of these coal-fired CHP plants and is eager to maximize the usage of the available potential of renewable sources (e.g. biomass and geothermal heat) and waste heat (e.g. from waste incineration, sewage plant and industrial heat). The residual heat demand shall be covered by a highly flexible gas-based hybrid concept, consisting of a modular highly efficient CHP-plant, a P2H-part and a heat storage.
The goal of this master thesis project is to develop and model different combinations of flexible CHP-P2H using process simulation software. Flexibility in this context is desired at different levels, for example (i) flexibility in the independent heat and power generation, (ii) flexibility in the speed of reaction to changes and (iii) flexibility to use different energy carriers, for example natural gas, hydrogen or electricity.
The tasks to be accomplished are described below in more detail
At Vattenfall, we are convinced that striving for diversity helps building a more profitable, efficient and attractive company. Therefore we seek a harmonious balance of employees in terms of gender, age, and ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
Vattenfall is a leading European energy company with approximately 20,000 employees in Europe. For more than 100 years we have electrified industries, supplied energy to people's homes and modernized our way of living. We now want to make fossil-free living possible within one generation.
Working at Vattenfall means more than 'just' having an interesting job in a result-oriented culture. Here you will be part of a challenging, complex and international work environment. We offer our employees competitive remuneration, training opportunities and personal development.
The Business Area (BA) Heat develops, operates and optimizes the entire value chain of heating and cooling networks as well as of efficient heat and energy generation for the reliable supply of heat and electricity to customers in Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and UK. Portfolio Planning is a department within the BA Heat’s Asset Management division. The team is responsible for the mid- and long-term development and optimization of our generation portfolio in Berlin. Our task is to identify and develop specific strategic solutions for the transformation of our production sites in the energy transition context that satisfy the technological, economic and ecological demands of fossil-free district heating.
Your application should contain a covering letter, CV, current grade reports and your certificate of enrollment.
